Eden Prairie, Minnesota- 22 December, 2008. WAND Corporation announced today that it has achieved the Payment Application Best Practices (PABP Software Certification) certification. WAND Corporation’s auditor was TrustWave. Established in 2005 by Visa, Inc. the Payment Application Best Practices (PABP) program is now no longer controlled by any one credit card company, but is overseen by the internationally driven PCI SSC council. PABP certification assists customers as part of a larger process for achieving total payment card industry data security standard (PCI DSS) compliance that is to be completed by a business that accepts payment cards, including credit cards, debit cards, and gift cards.
WAND Corporation has partnered with Tender Retail to act as its payment card processor. Working together, the two have formed WAND SecurePay™, which will facilitate the payment card process. In 2007, the PCI Security Standards Council chose to make PABP the accepted guideline for handling consumer payment card information and named it the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA DSS).
PABP certification has been recognized since 2007 by other international credit card companies, like MasterCard and Discover as a secure and legitimate form of customer data protection in the retail and QSR spaces. The PA DSS ensures that certain credit card information, like the magnetic stripe or the customer’s PIN number are not retained or redistributed.
WAND SecurePay™ has been configured to run best with WAND Corporation’s software. Mr. Craig Martin, Software Coordinator for WAND Corporation said “With our application, customers are provided the best security available, per Visa standards.”
Mr. Jim Wilson, CISSP, PMP, and Vice-President of Technology for WAND Corporation said that partnering with Tender Retail, “reduces our risk to have all of the credit card transactions processed through third party software. Our primary focus and what we do best as a company is point of sale. By contracting with Tender Retail, we’ve brought in a respected organization that will do what they do best, providing the highest level of security available to our customers.”
Since October of 2007, companies have been fined up to $25,000 per month by Visa, Inc. for failing to be PCI complaint: that’s $300,000 per year. Software providers world-wide were required to update their software to meet the new standards. For instance, PABP compliant systems do not store the complete magnetic strip information from a credit card in their memory banks. This extends to the CVV2 (three digit) number on the back of the card. A QSR business seeking PCI DSS compliance can’t achieve their goal without its software vendor first being PABP or PA DSS certified. Tender Retail’s “Merchant Connect Multi” program is compliant and fully integrated with WAND SecurePay™, the two forming a secure processing solution.
